Joining Shining Alliance

Application and Membership FAQ's

Choosing the right guild is one of the most important decisions you can make in EQ. Joining a guild that fits your playstyle and goals can have a huge positive effect on your enjoyment of the game. Joining a guild that does not fit your playstyle and goals can lead to a lot of frustration.

If you've decided that Shining Alliance is the right guild for you, please read on so that you understand the rules we use for admitting new members.

If you are not sure if Shining Alliance is the right guild for you, or want to learn more about Shining Alliance, please see the About SA page.

I've decided SA is my kind of guild. How do I join?

You must post your desire to join in the Membership Applications section of the message board.

How does the Application process work?
  1. At the time of application the applicant should not be a member of another guild nor should they be applying to any other guild.
  1. A Full Member of Shining Alliance must sponsor the applicant by stating they wish to do so in the applicants application thread on the message board. Probationary membership requires 20 or more yes votes and less than 3 no votes.
  2. At the end of each month the Officers will review all probationary candidates that have received 20 or more votes. Those candidates that pass Officer review are eligible to be invited during the first week of the month.
  1. The Probationary period will last a minimum of two months

At the end of the first month the Officers will review all candidates. Those candidates who pass Officer review will have full membership voting threads opened in the full membership voting section.
  1. Full membership requires 20 yes and less than 3 no votes.
  1. At the end of each month the officers will review all candidates for full membership who have the required votes. All candidates that pass this review will be promoted to full membership with access to all message board forums, voting rights and are permitted to use the Shining Alliance name in their posting signatures. Any probationary member that receives 3 no votes for full membership will be asked to leave the guild.
  1. There is no maximum time for any of these stages. Some people simply can't play as often as others or are at a level where it is difficult for them to get to know people quickly. It is not our desire to exclude casual or lower level players from membership. We simply want to make sure that we know our members well and are confident that they share our goals and values.
  1. An applicant who is turned down for membership can reapply in two months, if they so desire.
  1. If you have any questions regarding your application status please talk with your sponsor. If your sponsor is not available then speak with Padrai (any other Officer can also help if neither is not online). Note that it is not allowed to give details of how many votes you currently have nor who they are from.
  1. Alternate Characters will not be guilded until the character with which you are applying has reached Full Member status.

Can I ask people to sponsor me?

No, please don't send people tells and ask them to sponsor you.

I can understand and appreciate that, once you have decided to apply to SA, you are likely eager to get the process moving along. I am flattered that people are that enthusiastic about joining our guild.

However, there are quite a few people who are not comfortable with direct requests for sponsorship or votes (me, for example). There are also quite a few people that aren't in the least bit bothered by it. Unfortunately the only way to really find out which is which is to ask, (except in the case of me, since I already said) and then if they are one of the ones that don't like it, well, it's sorta too late not to bother them. So, please, just don't do it.
