Who are Shining Alliance?

Shining Alliance FAQ's

What sort of guild is Shining Alliance?

Shining Alliance is a casual guild that raids. Shining Alliance is not a raiding guild.

"What's the difference?", you might ask.

The main differences are as follows:

  • We raid less often than a raiding guild. Raids days are Wednesdays and Saturdays. Our usual starting times are 7pm Eastern on Wednesdays and 1pm Eastern on Saturdays. While we may raid something on a day other than our raid days this is very, very rare. Generally, if a mob isn't up on our raid day, it doesn't get raided by us.
  • Raid attendence is not mandatory. Sometimes you can't make it to a raid. Sometimes you just don't feel like it. That's fine, however, members may not attend another raid on our raid days while we are raiding without permssion of one of the Officers. If you are going to raid, it will be with our guild unless there is a very good reason. Do so at your own risk, up to and including guild removal.
  • We have no mimimum level or AA requirements. We want good people whose company we enjoy. We don't care what level they are. It is worth noting, however, that the vast majority of our guild is level 75, so while there is no minimum level to join, it is a lot harder to get to know people if you are too low level to group with them. It's not impossible, but it is harder

How do you handle loot?
Loot is awarded by a vote of the Officers.

When loot drops, we ask for tells from anyone that would use the item and then the Officers look at the list of people that asked in and vote for who will receive the item.

There are many factors that we consider when awarding loot, including raid attendence, guild seniority, level, attitude, how long it has been since a person got something, how much of an upgrade something is, what will benefit the guild most, and probably a few other things that I am forgetting.

What if I don't like the loot system?

Find a guild that uses a system you prefer. This is the system we use and it isn't changing.

What if I disagree with a loot decision or have a question about why a particular loot decision is made?

It's almost certain to happen sooner or later. The Officers are human. We have made mistakes in the past and will make them in the future. Wait for an appropriate time and send a tell to an Officer politely stating your concern or question. I do not mind discussing these issues as long as they are addressed politely.

  • Do NOT start ranting in guildchat. Don't insist on letting your disappointment ruin everyone else's fun.
  • Do NOT make angry posts on the message board. I will delete them.
  • Do NOT guildremove yourself over it. You won't be invited back.

May an Alternate Character receive raid loot?
As a general rule... SA members should respect mains over alternates.

GUILD EVENTS:
A guild event is defined as more than one group, predominantly of SA members or applicants, led by an SA member AND sponsored by an SA officer.

As far as guild events go, there are only a few occasions when an alternate character may put in for items or random for items.

The first is when they are asked to play a specific character in the place of their main. This does not mean that they may roll twice if their main is present and their alt is there as well. This loot is counted for tracking purposes as if the main were receiving it.

The only other time an alternate character may receive raid loot is if the item is going to rot. Then as long as it does not disturb the advancement of the raid an alternate may be awarded the item. In some cases, a high quality item may drop that is class specific and the item will rot, we may take time to get an alternate or non guild friend in to retrieve the item. This will be at the discretion of the officers or event leader or myself.

SINGLE GROUPS OR NON SA SPONSORED EVENTS
Predominantly SA member/applicant single groups and non-SA sponsored, member led events, alternates SHOULD defer to mains. If it is the CONSENSUS of the group that an alternate may be eligible for items, then this should be understood up front so that a member can decline to join or suggest a different method etc.. We do not want hard feelings due to this, so please work things out early.

If there are any questions or concerns, send me an email or a tell, I don't mind questions about loot or anything else for that matter. What I don't like is unreasonable people who get upset when things don't fall their way and then want to chew on someone like me. If you have a question, ask away, if you want to gripe, send the tell to Targunk...

What sort of behavior is expected of SA members?

Shining Alliance has one of best and cleanest reputations of any guild on the server. There are few things, if any, more important to me in EQ than making sure we continue to have and, more importantly, deserve that reputation.

Camp jumping, kill stealing, training, ninja-looting and trade scamming will get you guildremoved.

It goes beyond that, though. SA members are expected to act in an honest, courteous and respectful manner toward all. That means remembering that your level doesn't make you better or more important than other people. That means resisting the urge to curse people out, make vulgar comments or answer sincere questions with derisive remarks in /ooc. That means not letting unreasonable or unscrupulous people drag you down to their level.

If you are the sort of person who thinks that courtesy is a sign of weakness, or who likes to describe yourself as an "equal opportunity offender", SA isn't the guild for you.

A quote I like on this topic is, "Live so that your friends can always defend you, but never have to".

On the Subject of Epic Quests

The Shining Alliance Epic Committee

Shining Alliance have an Epic Committee, the reason the Epic Committee exists is for several reasons: We are committed in Shining Alliance to assist people obtain their epics because it is a major upgrade and it does increase the viability and strength of the guild as a whole. We are a committee and work as a team so that we can keep the energy level up and maintain enthusiasm and provide coverage for all the tasks involved. We are volunteers and donate our time and thoughts to the notion that we can be a stronger guild with epics.

As a committee and the Officers also, we have decided that the criteria for guild assistance on raids for epics is the following:

  1. Be a full member in good standing.
  1. Serve time as a member of the epic fights, guild raids and support the efforts of other members in achieving epic goals.

After the 1.5 is achieved, it is the hope of the committee that you can assist others in achieving their goals. Some of the fights require numbers and larger raids, and to achieve some of the epics we need good participation from the guild as a whole.

Epics: About the Raid
  1. If you aren't listed here then you aren't on the list. And you need to post there, that you are ready for your fight. Don't post until you are ready for the fight. For most 1.5's things must be done in order.
  1. Know your fight. The committee try's to know every fight. But we are only human and may not know them. If committee members don't know your fight, you will be asked to give the instructions for it.
  1. We haven't really been saying much about it, but please stay out of raid chat. We try to use raid chat for instructions, incoming messages and assist messages, stuff that needs to be seen. If you want to chat please keep it to the channel, guild chat, and tells.
  1. Pay attention. AFK's are expected, but try to keep them to a minimum. There are fights (ranger fights I believe) that the mob can only be brought down to a certain percent, and can NOT be killed. If you’re not sure if you can attack, or DoT, please ask. If you’re still in doubt then just don't attack.
  1. We work from the raid fight list starting with full members...just a reminder.
  1. Jesters are not to be summoned during the raid...they are distracting to many players. Thanks in advance. (This is because there are no Jesters with a Giggs name in green armor).

Epics: About Loot
  1. Randoms are for mains first. If an item is going to able to go to an alt, it will be called if no mains can use the item.
  1. Please DO NOT Random for fun. It just makes our job even harder.
  1. Anything not randomed on will automatically go to the guild bank.

Epics: About Groups
  1. Keep an eye for those that are LFG if you have open spots.
  1. If you are LFG and can't get in a group after a little while, send a committee member a quick tell saying you need a group. They will tell you who has openings or get you to start a group.
  1. We haven't had any problems, but just incase, figured I'd toss this one in. The committee will always try to make groups balanced. This may require you being moved. We will always do our best to leave bots with the mains and normally don't have problems with that. Just don't be surprised if you are talking and are moved abruptly. We try to always have a reason behind it.

Thank you again for showing your support for your guildmates. All the help is greatly appreciated.
